Title track ‘Soulville’ unfurls like a slow walk home, his vibrato rich but never syrupy. Late Date talks in half-smiles, his sly bends saying more than words. Makin Whoopee turns into a warm back-and-forth with Peterson, all relaxed swing. This LP pressing opens up space and the low end sits deeper, so Rays bass feels properly rooted.
